Pro life hypocrisy

I'm reading what the canditates for presidency in US are saying about their politics. There is this guestion about abortion and death penalty.
While some of the candidates are really proud of the huge amount of people they have sent to death, they still claim that they are pro life, what means abortion, how else.
Where is the logic? Someone please point it out for me, while I slowly cook.
